OOTD: Make it Work

This H&M skirt is one of my favorites. It was sort of like fate how it found its way into my closet. I was at the downtown store and I was going down the escalator. At the bottom of the escalator waiting for me was a lone polka dot skirt, but there was one problem. It was a size 0. On top of that, it was pull on style meaning no squeezing or tucking allowed. I was able to get into it, but barely. I bought it, but I sadly never wore it. I thought about giving it away but I just couldn't bare it. I've seen other black and white polka dot skirts before but never any with khaki, sturdy material like this one. I decided to take Stacy and Clinton's advice from What Not To Wear and take it to the tailor. I asked the lady to add a zipper and take out the hem and voila! The moral of the story is to not let your clothes take control of you. YOU take control of YOUR clothes. Your tailor truly is your very best friend.

I normally don't share my love for Anthropologie with friends because I don't want us all to be wearing the same things. I know it sounds really selfish, but I like having unique pieces and having people wonder where I get my clothes. Before I had a rule to never tell people where I got my clothes, but now when people ask I tell them but if they don't ask then I keep my mouth shut. My mom on the other hand obviously knows where I get my clothes because there's always Anthropologie bags laying around. I actually like sharing my love with anthro with her and here she was wearing her first cardigan and first pair of boots from anthro so I had to take a pic! I was so proud. I actually got the Loose Rein Boots first and then she really wanted them too so I called a bunch of stores to snatch up an 8 for her.

As I've said before, I love love love mixing prints because I don't like to match. I love being eclectic and making people take a second glance. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I do match but it's very rare. 

I wasn't really thrilled the first time I tried this skirt on, but I love polka dots so I had to get it. I think I didn't like it because it was pretty long on me, but I just flipped the top of the skirt over and it worked perfectly. Also, these boots are amazing! I still can't believe I looked over these beauties. It really taught me a lesson to look at shoes in person first before I purchase them. I can do this now since the new Anthro location in Chicago sells shoes now and that's where I got these boots.

You'll see that I'm trying something new with my pictures. I really hated the quality of the pics that I took in the mirror because I couldn't use flash, and the fact that I had to take the pics in the mirror in the first place since nobody would take them of me. I noticed a couple of tripods in my house and gave it a go so hopefully I'll have time to set the tripod up because I like these pics a lot better.

I showed this pic below to my bro and he teased, "Is that your Bella pose?" hahaha.

My Sale Picks

I was so prepared to look today's sale in the eye and turn away. I didn't think there would be this many items on sale, so of course I failed. I tried to limit myself to only things I really really wanted and 4 things came to mind. Unfortunately, I never tried any of them on so I went to my local store and tried on the Refined Cord and was not smitten. I also had a couple more things on hold at another store and the Waving Grain Pumps were too big, but I realized I didn't have to have them. While I was there I saw the Gilgarran boots and never really took a second glance while they were online, but in person they were lovely! I didn't think they had my size but had an SA check anyway and they did! Here are all my picks from today.

OOTD: Bows and Feathered Friends

I love how things fall into place when you were least expecting it. The Southward Stop Shirtdress was never on my wishlist because it didn't appeal to me. I normally lean toward florals and stripes rather than animal prints. I visited my local anthro and found a size 8 all alone by itself. I tried it on just for kicks and it still didn't appeal to me. Maybe because it was big? A couple weeks later I found another one all alone in a size 0. I'm normally a size 4 so I was pretty skeptic, but to my surprise it fit! I loved the dress because it hugged all the right places instead of just hanging there. After I bought it I realized that I wanted a little bit more room in the bust area so after calling about 20 stores randomly after CS told me there were none left, I found one in my normal size 4. I am delighted that I jumped on the southward bandwagon because it is one of my favorite casual dresses. I paired it with the Alighting Lepidoptera Sweater that I found all by itself along with the dress. I never took a second glance at this piece too but I love it!

My New Year's Resolutions

I never do resolutions because I feel so restrained and they never work out. These resolutions are still possibilities, but I think I'm going to try a month to month basis so I don't stress myself knowing that I can't do this or I have to do that for a whole year. I really want to do a "no ___ for a year" because my cousin just accomplished no chocolate for a year. How she did it I have no idea. On top of that, the year before she did no pop. I admire her and wish that I could say that I've done something for a whole year. I love new beginnings so here's to a better life. 2011 should be a good year for me since I'm graduating college, Lord willing. I know that there is a lot in store for me and I can't wait to see what God has planned for me in 2011!

Spotted: Anthropologie on Disney Channel, Oprah Show, and Hartford Commercial

I love seeing Anthropologie on TV, especially pieces that I own. I feel like I have some sort of connection to whoever is wearing an Anthro piece. It seems as though I only watch the Disney Channel, but I do know that there are other Anthro pieces featured on other TV shows and such. Disney Channel is just always on at my house whenever I'm bored so I guess that's a lot. It also intrigues me how Disney stylists can style sophisticated Anthro pieces in a young, funky way.

Sonny is wearing the Clinging Blossoms Cardigan for the 2nd time in the episode "New Girl," just in the different colorway. You can see her wearing the other colorway in this post. Sorry for the bad quality, but this is a new episode so there isn't really any good screen caps out there yet. 

 Harper is wearing the Swan Song Skirt by Leifsdottir in the Wizards of Waverly Place episode "Journey to the Center of the Mason."

Kristina Kuzmic-Crocco is a finalist on Oprah's "Your Own Show." She's paired the In the Trees Skirt with the Volante Tee. When I saw her walking out on the Oprah show I just about died. I own this skirt and am waiting out for sale on the top. This pairing is genius and it makes me want to wear this skirt soon!

While I was watching a football game today I spotted this chick sporting the Trickle Down Top from a Hartford Auto Insurance commercial. I thought this was particularly funny and random because the commercial was about cowboy boot purses.

Top 10 from 2010: Shoes + OOTD: Anthrofying Gravity

I saved the best for last...SHOES! Before this year I didn't own one pair of shoes from Anthropologie. It's so hard to believe because shoes are my kryptonite. Every time I go on a website I look at the shoes first. I only owned one pair of nice leather boots before this year also and Anthropologie filled my fix for unique leather boots. I am so ecstatic with this list of shoes/boots and can't wait to wear them out!

Here is my OOTD. I named it Anthrofying Gravity because I wore this outfit to see Wicked! I thought it was fitting since my blog's name is based on the musical. We were sitting in the 2nd row and it's like seeing a whole different show. I've seen Wicked 5 times and I've been in the first row and the last row and everywhere in between and I have to say that the 2nd row is the best to me. This cast is magnificent and I highly recommend seeing it if you're ever in Chicago.
